Practicum + Supervision Requirements

All therapeutic bodies have guidelines for professional practice and qualifying processes that support practitioners in becoming competent in their field. Our Practicum and Supervision requirements reflect the standards of the:

  • International Breathwork Foundation

  • ACCT / CPCA / BCACC

  • Global Professional Breathwork Alliance

  • Somatic Experiencing International

  • Yoga Alliance

At this current time, the Somatic Embodiment Academy is not affiliated with a governing body or therapeutic institution. We are taking steps towards building these relationships and seek to mirror these shared standards of practice.

Our Pathway

Our goal is to make this process as streamlined and accessible as possible while maintaining professional excellence and honouring the time and energy of our team. Please review the information below for further details.

Practicum

  • Your practicum requirements are designed to help you refine and integrate the Breathwork Facilitation and Somatic Coaching protocols learned in Level 2 by applying them in real-time with friends, clients, family members, and colleagues. The underlying intention is to acknowledge that proficiency in any therapeutic skill requires dedicated practice—hours spent facilitating in real-world environments that leave room for learning through trial and error.

If you plan to implement these skills immediately with professional clients, you may consider offering your sessions at a discounted rate and/or clearly communicating that you are integrating a new modality into your existing services. Transparency and informed consent are key.

 Supervision

  • Your supervision requirements provide an opportunity to bring case studies—your experiences offering breathwork and/or somatic coaching sessions—to your peers and approved supervisors. These sessions are meant to review your application of the protocols, offer constructive feedback, answer questions, and support your ongoing development with integrity.

Supervision is also a space to process your own inner experiences that may surface as you step more fully into this work. This can include imposter syndrome, perfectionism, negative self-talk, transference and countertransference, nervous system dysregulation, or challenges with self-care and energetic hygiene. In essence, supervision is not only a space for clinical reflection but also a place to receive support for whatever arises in your nervous system as you deepen into this path.

Total Hours Overview

  • Total hour requirements for level 2 certification

    • 80 (Level 1) + 80 (Level 2) + 50 (supervision) + 60 (practicum) = 270 hours

Level 3 Mentorship Requirements

Complete all level 1 and 2 requirements (270hrs)

    • This would be in addition to any Level 1 or 2 training(s) supported as part of the Level 2 Practicum and/or Supervision requirements.

    • As a Level 3 graduate, you would support running the breathwork circles offered in the in-person trainings

    • As Level 3 graduates, you would support running additional group-oriented offerings in the Online Level 1 + 2

    • Supporting a training is FREE and, in specific contexts, financially compensated.

  • One-on-one Supervision from a certified and approved Group/Lead facilitator (Duration: 60min)

    • These sessions would follow the same guidelines as Level 2 Supervision, but in the context of leading groups + embodied leadership.

  • Group consultations led by a certified and approved Group/Lead facilitator (Duration: 60 - 90min)

    • These sessions would follow the same guidelines as Level 2 Supervision, but in the context of leading group offerings.

  • Leading or Co-facilitating Breathwork Circles (3hrs/ea)

    • Note that “co-facilitation” differentiates itself from “supporting” a breathwork circle by requiring acts of leadership. A co-facilitator shares the role of teaching/leading/guiding the structure of the evening and takes the lead in certain sections such as leading the opening meditation, talking about the psychoeducation, guiding a breathwork demo, teaching the technique, and directing the flow of the breathwork journey itself while being aware of the bell curve and energetics of the group, not solely an individual breather. Largely the lead facilitator will take a back seat and act more as a "support".
